The 2019 Celebrate CB parade this year was a great success! In continuing in its roughly 40-year history (we’re not exactly sure how long we’ve been doing this), the local amateur radio community, along with other organizations, have supported the parade organizers in their task of making sure that the parades take place as smoothly as possible.
A salute of appreciation to these volunteers for stepping up to ensure that the parade this year went off smoothly:
Terry KS0L
Bob KA0OCA
John K0MXL
Rae N0RAE
Jon KE0NWM
Steve Yeoman
Jack O’Connell
Marcia Blain
The tasks included:
- Making sure each entry had their number properly posted on the entry.
- In the order of appearance (maps will indicate where they should be).
- Using an entry listing so if someone is in the wrong zone, they can be directed where to go.
- Communicate any medical or other emergencies to parade communications center.
- Each team would have their own area or zone to manage (a certain number of entries) usually a one or two block area.
- There will be others working the other staging zones and were on the same frequency.
- By supplying this communications service, if questions came up we could always get answers from the organizers.
- We had a front row sear to watch the parade which usually gets over at 12:30.
- The is one of the more fun events that I have worked with. People are up for the parade and usually in a very good moods and more than willing to work with you.
- In the around 40-year history, we have only had rain three times. Usually, the parade went on except for thunder and lightning.
