We’ve got nets for 2M FM, 440, one on 220 Friday night, 2M SSB 8 o’clock Sunday night but not much for 6M. We were discussing a 6M FM repeater up in Mondamin but no one knew whether it’s currently operational.
.
Larry WOPYA and Tom WDOBFO show up Sunday afternoon on the 6M net freq, 50.2, and ask for check-ins. Sunday 11.14 they had half a dozen. (2M SSB often gets a dozen or more.) Tom was Net Control:
Tom WDOBFO
Glen WAOFMY
Joel KOOQL
Larry WOPYA
Rich WAOZQG
.
We couldn’t all copy each other because unlike the 2M SSB net which asks everyone to use their regular 2M verticals (in opposition to the SSB horizontal standard) our various 6M antennae were at less than optimum height and orientation.
.
Shown above is an MFJ 9406 mono band 6M SSB that runs 10W. MFJ makes several such on various bands; also some CW models for a few bucks less. They have few features, the big deal is RIT, but work very well. The 9406 covers only the first 300 kc of the band, but that includes the .125 calling and .200 net freqs. This one has a matching tuner and AC / battery power supply that came with a used 9020 20M CW rig. Looks nice don’t you think? (Behind is a Kenwood 440S all mode HF, 160 – 10, with an internal tuner. They advertised it as ‘Key down for an hour’ because it has a huge heat sink and internal fan.)
