Manawa – July

News / Sunday, July 16th, 2023

Keith KEOAEP has rescheduled the Lake Manawa Saturday get-togethers for just once a month, and in July 2023 brought in over a dozen of us along with half a dozen HF radio setups. Present the 3rd Saturday (delayed a week by the North Bend Hamfest) were:
.
Keith KEOAEP Icom 7300
Don WOAF Xiegu 5105 & QRP Labs mini 20M CW
Gerhard NZOB Icom 705 QRP
and his daughter (briefly)
Kevin KCOBWK from Shen.
Bill KDOFJR
Greg NOGR
Zack KFOIWS
Ron KRON without 891 won at NoBend
Adam KBONWB Yaesu 891
Wayne KNOWDJ
Craig KDOYTI
Rich WAOZQG
JD KDOZTZ
.

This is Gerhard NZOB setting up his antenna for IC-705
.
Oh, early arrivals in pkg lot, L to R, Craig YTI’s blue motortricycle; somebody else, and Keith AEP’s antenna equipped white pickup.
.

.
Don WOAF was wearing his DD-214 hat that he found at a thrift shop for 50c.
.

.
Don had the Xiegu, but was showing off his new QRP Labs mini 20M CW rig, in the picture above shown decoding the Morse – a QSO involving (expand the pic and look at the LCD) K9WZB. The Xiegu has an internal battery. The QRP Labs (from Turkey) is kind of small, shirt pocket size. The thing above it is the antenna tuner.
.

.
Keith AEP’s pickup has a pipe welded in front. You put a telescoping fiberglass pole in it, attach 30 feet of wire, and then hook up that plastic box with a ferrite core and some other stuff. Add the 2 yellow radials and presto, 20M vertical ready to go with his IC-7300.
