We’re doing this 3 Saturdays a month (not the 1st one – that’s Tobey Jack’s in Manawa) from around 9AM to 11 with either 1) just a gabfest, 2) mini flea mkt, or 3) a ‘program’ as we did August 29th, or 4) some combination of all those. So here’s what happened Saturday 08.29: Don WOAF showed off his Xeigu 5105 QRP mini; Mike WOEGR brought his ICOM 7300; Steve NOORU had an Elecraft KX-3, and two guys had air cannon antenna launchers, Craig WONEU and Keith KEOAEP.

WOAF’s Chinese Xeigu 5105 is 5 Watts with, get this:
General coverage receiver
160 thru 6M transceive
internal battery
internal auto tuner
RTTY decoder on the LCD
CW decoder on the LCD

He generally uses it with a switchable mono band whip, but as noted, with the internal tuner, it’ll work with a lot of different antennas. This is NOT the same radio as on MFJ site currently. Compare specs. Maybe you’d go for the 20 Watt version MFJ has currently.

Mike WOEGR has an ICOM 7300 hundred Watt rig. He set it at half power because his battery was the size of a motorcycle batt, maybe 8 or 9 Ampere hours. It lasted.

Steve NOORU brought his Elecraft KX-3. There are a LOT of options for that, but Steve just had the basic rig. Really nice LCD display. 15 to 18 Watts out on various bands. (You sometimes need more than five.)

Then there were the two air cannon. Craig WONEU and Keith KEOAEP made numerous demonstration shots, mostly with less than 40 psi pressure. They put an aerial OVER the 75 ft tree nearby.
